ARTICLE 1 The third edition of Carrera de Baja (from here on CdB) is organized by W.W.P. ORGANIZATION in cooperation with the Mexican Tourism Authority.   

It is a trail running race in stages.

The friendly and relaxed environment, which marks the events labelled W.W.P.O., will allow you to get close to this sport with the right approach in safety and in good company. On the other hand, the expert and competitive athletes will be given the chance to face a landscape where the wild nature still rules.

ARTICLE 2.  The event will take place in five stages:

-       Sunday, October 19th

Arrival in La Paz

-        Monday, October 20st  

Transfer by coach from La Paz to Loreto

-       Tuesday, October  21nd  

1st  Stage – 27 km (also 3x10km)                                     

     Undulating course on dirt roads

Start at 10 a.m.

-       Wednesday, October 22rd    

2nd  Stage -  32 km                                     

Undulating course over the giant cactus forest

Start at 9 a.m.

-       Thursday, October 23th  

3rd  Stage - 10 km  (also 3x10km)                                                                         

Completely flat course nearby Loreto, exciting arrival at the Mission by the Plaza.

     Start at 10 a.m. 

-       Friday, October 24th  

4th Stage – 21 km

Mixed course on the beautiful Magdalena Island, short boat ride in order to get there.

Start at 11 a.m.

-       Saturday, October 25th

5th Stage – 10 km (also 3x10km)                                     

             Ondulating alternation on beaches and rocky capes at Paya Tecolote by La Paz.

            Prize-giving and farewell party!

-       Sunday, October 26th

The event is also open to non-expert athletes. The whole course is in complete safety, but caution and an adequate preparation for the distances to cover and the altimetry to overcome are required.

The final ranking will be drawn up on the basis of the sum of the five times of the five stages. Then in sequence, the athletes who will withdraw in one or more stages will be ranked on the basis of the km covered.

It is also foreseen a so-called “3x10” ranking, for the athletes who will take part in the last 10 km of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th stage.

Race timing system will be performed by the timekeeper team of W.W.P ORGANIZATION.


ARTICLE 3 The race courses have been marked out with the precious cooperation of the multi-champion Marco Olmo, 16x Marathon des Sables Finisher and 2x Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc winner and 4x Desert Cup winner.

ARTICLE 4 The race is open to athletes, turned 18 before October 20, 2013. The participants will be divided into two categories:

-       male

-       female


ARTICLE 5 The participants must have a sports license, for which it is required a medical clearance to compete in competitive sports, signed by one of the physicians of the Federation of Sports Medicine and whose date does not expire before the end of the competition.     

Non-licensed participants must show the same kind of certificate attesting the athlete’s fitness to competitive athletics, been issued for less than a year.

Copies of Clearance will not be given back.


ARTICLE 6 W.W.P. Organization have subscribed a insurance with UISP whose coverage includes the competitors against damages and repatriation, as long as they are in the race, that is as long as they are not disqualified, withdrawn or after the cut-off time. Athletes are recommended to subscribe an individual insurance policy.


ARTICLE 7 Competitors must be semi-self-sufficient. At each single stage, any participant MUST carry:  (on pain of disqualification):

-      Personal bib number, given by the Organization, which must always be perfectly and entirely visible and attached to the front of the shirt or jacket.

-      Flasks or the like containing a litre of water at least (except in the stages shorter than 12 km)

-       Food supplies according to each one’s need

-       Survival blanket

-       Whistle

-       Trail shoes or closed running footwear are mandatory. It is forbidden to wear sandals or open shoes

Hiking sticks are optional. 

Athletes’ equipment will be checked at the start and end of each stage.


It is at athletes’ expense:

- their own food supplies for each single stage. (It is recommended to bring supply for the longest four stages from one’s own country).


           It is recommended to wear sunglasses and a cap.


ARTICLE 8 There will also be checkpoints and passage points, also surprise ones, where the competitors must have their bib stamped and must sign the transit card.

ARTICLE 9 The organizers reserve the right to make rule, course and start times changes at any time.

ARTICLE 10 The participants grant press and the organizing committee permission to use and publish the pictures taken during the race.

ARTICLE 11 Race bag pick up will be on Sunday 20 October at 7 p.m. at Hotel Marina in La Paz. The general briefing will be held on Sunday 20 October at 8 p.m. in the same hotel. Briefings will be also held at the starting line of each single stage half an hour before the start.

ARTICLE 12 Courses will be marked with colourful tapes and/or orange directional arrows.

ARTICLE 13 Participants are fully aware of the risks connected with this competition and voluntarily assume full responsibility in taking part in this event. Organization will not be liable for any losses, damages, illness, injuries, including death.

ARTICLE 14 Participants can be disqualified if they:

-       miss the check at the start or in one of the checkpoints over the courses;

-       do not have one of the mandatory pieces of equipment (see article 7);

-       use a means of transport;

-       receive non-authorized aid;

-       throw rubbish out of the aid stations;

-       refuse to be visited by the race doctors in any time of the race;

-       are tested positive for doping. Any athlete can be drawn at random to undergo drug testing, during or after each single stage;

-       use threats or verbal abuses to the Organizing Committee or behave improperly. The Organizing committee have the ultimate and final authority to disqualify athletes.

ARTICLE 15 Upon registration, athletes acknowledge that they have read and understood the contents of these Rules and they have agreed to the terms. Any possible complaint can be lodged within an hour of the race, leaving $50 deposit which will be given back only in case the complaint is accepted.


The Organizing Committee is composed by:

-   W.W.P. Organization Sports Director and Responsible for logistics   Giorgio Codias



-       One aid station at about half of the course in the stages longer than 20 km including: water, salt, coke, jelly and/or energy bars.

-       At each aid station, all participants MUST fill in their flasks with at least 1 litre of water.  

It is strictly forbidden to throw rubbish all over the course, ON PAIN OF DISQUALIFICATION (see article 14). Rubbish must be thrown at the aid stations.



-       Medical assistance will be provided at the start and end of each single stage and over the course, thanks to an off-road vehicle which will follow the whole competition. Moreover, a medical off-road vehicle or ambulance will always be on the tracks.

-       A quad or other vehicle fitting the features of the course.


PRIZES will be awarded to:

-       the first five athletes of the absolute male and female rankings.

-       the first ranked team; the ranking will be drawn up on the basis of the sum of the first three best times scored by the members of the team. Each team can be composed by a maximum of five athletes.

Upon registration it will possible to subscribe a personal insurance of $ 80 (€ 60), which, in case of withdrawal within 30/09/2014, allows a refund of 80% of the amount paid. After that date no refund will be given.

Upon registration, participants or single accompanying people (therefore not taking a double room) must say if they prefer sharing a double room with another person of the same gender or staying in a single room, paying a surcharge.


Entry fee includes:

-       overnight stay and breakfast at Hotel Marina (3 stars) in La Paz, nights of 20 and 26 October.

-       half board at Hotel Oasis (3 stars) in  Loreto, from the dinner of Monday 21 October to the breakfast of Thursday 24 October. All beach-view rooms, close to the beautiful sandy beach in Loreto. The Hotel is furnished with solarium and large heated swimming pool.

-       Half board at Hotel San Miguel (3 stars) on Friday 25 October.

-       Race entry and rich race bag (athletes only)  

-       Assistance all over the course during the five race days.

-       All the means of transport from La Paz to Loreto and return and all the transfers at start and end of each stage.

-       Transfer by ship to the islands of the race stages


-        2014 Finisher’s medal



-       SUNDAY 20 October 2014  competitors and accompanying people’s arrival at the assigned  Hotel in La Paz (own means of transport).

-       MONDAY 21 October  2012 at 9 a.m. departure by coach to Loreto.

-       TUESDAY 22 to FRIDAY 25 October races in the morning (see art. 2), excursions and relax in the afternoon (for the accompanying people, free days with the possibility to follow the athletes at the starting line, finishing line and sometimes over the course). In the afternoons possibility of practicing scuba-diving, snorkelling, fishing, sailing, surf, golf with a specialized agency and local guides. (All the extras are at an extra cost ).

-       FRIDAY 25 OCTOBER transfer by coach to San Carlos for the fourth stage. Short boat ride to Isla Magdalena where yo will be running on amazing sand-dunes. Following the stage we will then transfer to La Paz by bus.

-        SATURDAY 26  Bus transfer to Playa Tecolote where we will be running the last stage. Prize giving ceremony and farewell party.

-        SUNDAY 26 October return to one’s own country.



-       Round-trip journey from one’s own country to La Paz (Mexico). It is highly recommended to book in advance in order to get the best fares. You can reach La Paz via Mexico City (Mexico) or Los Angeles (USA)

-       All the lunches

-       Sunday 27 October dinner (for the ones who have not boarded yet)

-       Drinks during meals.

-       Excursions and afternoon activities
